Position Overview:

The Structural Design Engineer will be based in our Ambler, Pa., office. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful and goal-oriented individual with 0-2 years of experience who is looking to develop a career in building design.  This individual must have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and be challenged, and a desire to engage with other design discipline team members.

Precis is recognized for our design expertise and proficiency in providing strategically sensitive and technically complex engineering and architectural services. Our Structural Department is regularly engaged in a broad spectrum of projects that require creative solutions to challenging building systems and utility issues. This offers an excellent environment for employees to rapidly expand their knowledge and understanding of the key role engineering plays in the success of building renovations and new construction projects.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and design task-focused structural solutions for new and existing structures while leveraging hand calculations, design spreadsheets, and computer software.
• Document design of projects using CAD and BIM software.
• Review structural submittals from contractors during the construction phase of projects to ensure conformance to construction-issued structural documentation.
• Coordinate and respond to contractor-issued requests for information (RFIs).
• Perform site visits throughout all phases of projects (from conceptual design through construction administration); site visits include visual observations of existing building conditions and/or new construction while keeping organized notes and survey documentation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering, and minimum EIT certified.
• Solid foundation in the principles of structural engineering with a demonstrated interest in design of high-tech building systems and structures.
• Knowledge in structural design and documentation of multiple building materials such as steel, steel bar joists, metal deck, cast-in-place concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Familiarity and ability to navigate Microsoft Office products preferred.
• Relevant internship or research experience.
• Excellent written, graphical, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with documentation software, particularly AutoCAD and Revit.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and assignments and adapt to changing needs while maintaining a high standard of excellence, integrity, and attention to detail.
• Familiarity of finite element structural design software such as RISA-3D and RAM Elements.
• Familiarity of structural design software such as RAM Structural System, Enercalc, TEDDS, and Hilti Profis.
• Comfortable with heights and confined spaces.
