Hoernlein appointed to ISPE-DVC Board of Directors

Karin Hoernlein has been appointed to the ISPE-DVC Board of Directors. She is now the Co-Chairperson for the Membership Committee. Karin has been a member of ISPE for several years and has been a volunteer at the annual golf outing and Habitat for Humanity, as well as a member of the program committee. Her recognition by ISPE and in the Pharmaceutical Industry while representing the Precis family sets an excellent example.

Precis Commissioning spins off from Precis Engineering

Precis Commissioning has launched as an independent, woman-owned partner of Precis Engineering. Founded by former Precis Engineering leader Kari Anne Donovan, PE, CxA, the new company provides comprehensive building commissioning services. “We wholeheartedly congratulate Kari and wish her the best in her new endeavor”, said Precis Engineering Principal Robert Dick, PE. “She has long been a valued part of our engineering and commissioning teams. We know and trust her leadership and look forward to collaborating with her as a fellow business owner.” Donovan was hired as one of the first employees of Precis Engineering. She rose from project manager to part of the principal leadership team. Steven Altomare Joins Precis as Vice President of Pharmaceutical Services

Precis Engineering, Inc. hired Steven L. Altomare as Vice President of Pharmaceutical Services. He will leverage nearly 36 years of pharmaceutical project leadership and engineering management experience to lead Precis’ pharmaceutical compliance, consulting, and support business. Altomare assumed his new role on 2 September 2014. “Steve brings significant experience in all facets of pharmaceutical project and facility management,” said Precis Principal Robert Dick, PE. “His expertise directing complex capital projects, overseeing facilities and equipment, and interfacing with regulatory agencies will be an asset to our pharmaceutical clients and to continuing the high levels of service and technical project excellence for which Precis has become known.” As a Precis vice president, Altomare will direct pharmaceutical engineering services, including oversight of utility and support systems design, master planning, project management, and client relations. In keeping with Precis’ philosophy of hands-on, principal-led project leadership, Altomare will be actively engaged in project design and delivery. Altomare gained his 36 years of engineering and plant operations management with Teva Pharmaceuticals USA and its predecessor Lemmon Company. He rose from validation technician to manager of mechanical and plant engineering services to director of facilities management and director of project engineering. Altomare has managed capital program budgets in excess of $100 million and conducted domestic and foreign facility global risk assessments. Altomare’s past responsibilities include over a decade of regional and site engineering management, facility design and construction oversight, project management, CapEx management, compliance and risk assessment, and master planning. He also gained over two decades of plant engineering and operation management, including utility systems design and operation, plant and equipment maintenance, packaging operations and engineering, qualification and validation, safety and environmental compliance, and small-volume parenterals, liquids, semi-solids, and solid oral dose production. Altomare holds a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey where he is currently pursuing his master’s. He is a member of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering and the National Fire Protection Association.

International Journal Includes Koons’ Commissioning Article

Canadian technology trade magazine, Leadership in Technology, has included the article “What is Building Commissioning?” by Precis Engineering Director of Commissioning Services Harry B. Koons, III, CxA, LEED AP, in its June 2014 issue. Published by TechNova, the professional organization for technicians and technologists in Nova Scotia, Leadership in Technology magazine is a primary source of technology news and information related to lean manufacturing, construction, and the oil and gas industries. The article first appeared in Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal’s 14 February 2014 issue.

Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal Recognizes Morphotek Pilot Plant with Two Awards

In its Best of 2013 Spotlight issue published 28 March 2014, Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal recognized the Morphotek Pilot Plant as #1 Favorite/Most Unique Engineering Project of 2013 and also cited it as the #1 Best Green Project of the year in the New Projects/LEED Gold category.  The Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal’s Best of 2013 Spotlight is a juried competition of submissions and nominations from the publication’s readership. The Morphotek Pilot Plant is a new $80 million, 60,000-square-foot pharmaceutical manufacturing plant designed with Arcus Design Group Architects and built by HSC Builders & Construction Managers. The LEED Gold certified project was also recognized as the 2013 ISPE Facility of the Year Award Sustainability category winner.

Koons Authors Commissioning Article for Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal

Precis Engineering Director of Commissioning Services Harry B. Koons, III, CxA, LEED AP, authored the article, “What is building commissioning?” in the February 14, 2014 issue of Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal. The article answers the title question as well as offering reasons why a building owner should commission a building and describing what tasks an objective commissioning agent should perform. Invivotek Wins Award of Excellence

Invivotek won the 2013 Award of Excellence for specialty projects under $3 million in the Associated Builders and Contractors of New Jersey annual Excellence in Construction Awards Competition. The competition recognizes the best of the best in merit shop construction projects. Invivotek earned similar recognition in the Associated Builders and Contractors of Pennsylvania 2012 awards program. Precis Engineering provided MEP engineering design for the new biopharmaceutical facility located in Trenton, NJ. Invivotek is a member of the Genesis Biotechnology Group, providing research technologies for human and animal health. Invivotek’s 19,000-square foot facility features state-of-the-art environmental monitoring and controls, differential pressure monitoring and controls, light control systems, and a sophisticated security system. Precis was part of a team that included Francis Cauffman, Worth & Company, and Sherute, LLC. A formal award will be presented October 29 at a ceremony in New Brunswick, NJ.

Keystone Edge Chronicles Precis’ Growth

In a 19 September Keystone Edge article, “Pharma and Biotech Keep Ambler’s Precis Engineering Growing”, writer Elise Vider chronicles Precis’s growth and success since 2005. The article comes on the heels of Precis hiring five new engineering and administrative support personnel for its Ambler, PA, team. Vider interviewed Principal Bob Dick, PE, who described his anticipation of the future: “Whether they’re growing, shrinking or consolidating, [our clients] need engineering services”. Keystone Edge covers growth and what’s next across Pennsylvania with a particular focus on the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the people, places, and companies driving the state forward. Bob Dick Co-Authors Article for Walls + Ceilings Magazine

Precis Engineering Principal Bob Dick, PE, co-authored the article “Considerations for Ceiling Applications”, which appears in the September 2013 issue of Walls + Ceilings magazine. Longtime Precis consultant and writer Amanda Gibney Weko collaborated with Bob on the article. The article describes how ceiling choices create challenges for MEP engineers to meet architectural vision while maintaining well-ventilated, brightly lit, draft-free, and sprinkler-protected spaces. Walls + Ceilings is a leading trade publication catering to contractors, architects, manufacturers, and suppliers.

Precis Exhibits Morphotek Pilot Plant at INTERPHEX

Precis Engineering exhibited at INTERPHEX USA, the leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical trade show, that took place 23-25 April 2013 at the Javitz Center in New York. On display was the Morphotek Pilot Plant, designed with Arcus Design Group Architects and built by HSC Builders & Construction Managers. INTERPHEX USA is a forum for leading-edge technology, education, and sourcing of products and services that improve manufacturing and supply chain performance for pharmaceutical, biologic, generic and service provider professionals. It brings pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals together with suppliers through a unique combination of conference, exhibition, workshops, partnering opportunities, and networking events. As part of its exhibit display, Precis commissioned AGW Communications to create a video presentation highlighting the recently completed Morphotek Pilot Plant. The $80 million, 60,000-sf, anticipated LEED Silver certified pharmaceutical manufacturing facility earned a 2013 Sustainable Facility of the Year award from the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering.
