John Volence

John Volence joined Precis in 2007, led the Mechanical Department from 2016-2024, became a principal in 2021, and earned a promotion to Chief Operations Officer in 2026 where he focuses on progressing firmwide quality, consistency, efficiency, and the employee experience, to better position Precis for continued sustainable growth.

A mechanical engineer with nearly 20 years of experience, John has provided engineering analysis, design, and management for projects ranging from central utility plants, laboratories, cleanrooms, and storage facilities to data centers, athletic facilities, classrooms, and conference spaces. He excels in the analysis and design of complex systems, energy optimization, and project management, and has particular expertise serving higher education clients.

John distinctly recalls being hired as one of Precis’ earliest employees – and having to build his own desk. His engineering acumen, systems thinking, and natural leadership qualities have been amplified over his years with the company. Today he guides operations, supports senior leadership, and helps all departments improve internal standards, policies, and procedures to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach.

Married with three young kids, John spends his precious free time watching Eagles and Nittany Lions football, going to concerts, traveling, playing video games, hiking, and doing projects around the house – trying to generate the same resource efficiency at home as he does for his clients.
